It's virus season!
As the French RESPE network reminds us, Respiratory Syndrome can be caused by multiple infectious agents leading to identical clinical signs: a sharp increase in temperature (hyperthermia or fever), nasal discharge, and coughing. All these diseases are monitored as part of the Respiratory Syndrome surveillance program. The pathogens (viruses and bacteria) sought as part of the RESPE Respiratory Syndrome surveillance protocol are:
- equine influenza virus, responsible for the flu;
- equine herpesvirus type 1 (EHV1), respiratory form;
- equine herpesvirus type 4 (EHV4), respiratory form;
- rhinovirus type A;
- rhinovirus type B;
- adenovirus type 1;
- the bacterium Streptococcus equi subsp. equi, responsible for strangles.
Be prepared!  By using BIOFRESH, you can easily reduce the risks of viral and bacterial contamination, and even the spread of parasitic and fungal diseases among your horses.
Each establishment, of course, has its own characteristics and routine... but you can include the following in your protocols:
- decontamination of the horse trailer or truck before and after each transport;
- decontamination of transit stalls upon arrival at the competition or public sale venue;
- decontamination of saddles, harnesses, and blankets between use on different horses;
- decontamination of riders' or caregivers' boots and gloves;
- maintaining clean air and sanitary control in your stalls.
Biofresh will become a new essential practice for your and your horse's biosecurity!
